Zak Wylde

I came across this video recently and thought I should share it with you.

It shows The Shredder of Shredders Zak Wylde backstage with his band Black Label Society before a show in the U.K. carrying on about what how to change their set around after their performance time had been cut into.

Listening to those guys rant really hit home with me. It represents so much of what it's like to be in a rock band; Zak sounds like a number of guys I've known and worked with over the years rolled into one. I couldn't help but think, "I'm home" while watching it.

My favorite part of the video though is when, toward the end of it, after Zak opens his guitar case and starts warming up while not plugging in. His whole demeanor and attitude changes dramatically after having ranted to the point of violence. The minute he starts to play his voice and attitude soften. You can tell how much he loves to play and how seriously he takes it.

Oil,

there's a ton of videos on YouTube featuring Zakk with either Ozzy or Black Label Society. It's like you could spend an entire day watching them.

It's like I was writing my first response (with the corrected spelling) around the time you had written and posted yours.

Your second post was hours after your first....you musta drifted off to other posts instead of reading and editing what you posted at 9:30 p.m. yesterday. It happens, no bigs.

I noticed it right away but went downstairs to eat. When I came back, you had posted your first response and I immediately began writing mine. It wasn't until I posted it and refreshed the screen that I saw you had posted just before I did.

I love Zakk and his playing but his comparison to Led Zepplin and SOng Remains the Same is so far off base. In 20 years no one will remember this band where as Zepplin will still be a classic fav.

Actually comparing things implies that there is a difference between the two

he wasn't comparing, he was talking about how they were in the same situation in that they both recorded a live performance

f*cking Zakk Wylde rules

Riff, I think I know what you're getting at.

Having loved Zeppelin as long as anyone I else, I've done my share of reading about their lives and work over the past 40 years. I saw The Song Remains The Same the day it was released in 1975 and have since owned numerous copies of it. I've read all the best books ever written about them and have watched and studied that film enough so that I never will have to watch it again.

From what I've learned about that movie, the performance was filmed at a show in NYC at Madison Square Garden in one night. All the peripheral material was filmed back in England when they were home.

So when Zakk said that the movie was a composite of different shows I was a bit confused by his remark. From what I know he most certainly was wrong.

He was only using the movie as an example to make his point that they'll have to make their own DVD from excerpts of different shows instead of just one because the show that night had been sabotaged by the time change—which is what he's pissed about.

It's just that he didn't really have the background info on the Zep movie. He was only saying what he thought they had done, which in a way is understandable.

Chippa, doesn't Zakk remind you of Matt Lindi but with blond hair?

Actually it was filmed in 1975 and released in 1976. I was too stoned back then to remember.

My interpretation was Zakk was saying if Zepplinn was asked to shorten their playlist the world may not have captured a particular moment that did get captured for that film. This could apply to BLC however my point was I doubt too many people would care twenty or 30 years from now.

But did you hear him say what I just described? That's the part that stood out for me.

Scary isn't it? Like a Viking chieftain on a rampage. He's an animal. But then, that's rock n' roll. It's very sordid behind the scenes.

It's funny when you see him in earlier videos. Zakk was this petite, almost lithe and androgynous rockstar. Somewhere along the line he transformed into Beowulf or Eric The Red; the penultimate headbanging, biker from hell.

I think he drinks way too much.

Actually he was partly right about the Zep movie. It was filmed over three nights they were booked at Madison Square Garden and not one.

His acoustic stuff f*cking kills me, I love it-

everyone in my family hates it- my son says sh*t to me like "Dad is this guy falling down stairs and breaking his back?" and most people I try to turn on to it usually are not that impressed, but f*ck me, I can't get enough

A couple bum notes in here, but the guy's been working his ass off- plus he says motherf*ckers and has a highly kickass mike stand

the perfect recipe for a haul ass performance
