So, which do YOU prefer?

I'll take a 10ft deep pit of stinking bat guano ANYDAY over teh POD XT

Well, I just recorded the new CD with Variax and XT Live and it sounds far superior to any amplifier I've played through. Check out the tracks from the CD here:
reverbnation.com/trickbagIn particular, the solo on "Fire On The Bayou" has some nice tones on it. All XT, baby!

In all fairness though Mike, have you tried the Bat Guano?
8/27/2008 2:00:58 PM
The Bat Guano at least serves a purpose.

I love them both so much it's hard to decide

I ditched my pod XT live for a Vox Tonelab SE.
I still use my bass pod XT live for some of the tone shaping stuff. The "Fish" preset is most excellent. Makes my bass sound just like Chris Squire's Rick. Too bad there isn't a "gives talent" preset. I could use that.

Mike,
You're right. that's all Pod XT tone right there.
Woul dlike to hear you on a real guitar with a real tube amp a couple of nice gain pedals, I think your playing would sound much different.
But if that tone works for you, good on you. It's too compressed for my taste (and that is just *my* taste).
I'm not saying it's good, bad or indifferent.

see, carl likes the bat guano.
i think it must be because there is probably a polynesian island that is made of bat guano or something.

Hundred,
Not even close. I've never found anything that comes close to that tone. I'm going to spend thousands more for a tone that doesn't come close to what I got with the XT and the Variax? If it's too compressed, that's either 1) because I've added compression to my taste, or 2) it's been compressed in the recording process. For example, the octavia tone at the end of "Fire On The Bayou". Can't get much better than that. I've had a number of pro guitarists in the area play through my gear and love it. Strat players, jazz-box players, 335 players, etc. Haven't gotten criticism from any of them. I'd bet that if I didn't tell anyone that this was Line 6 gear, you wouldn't have known, either. No one else has so far, not before being told.

Carl, I tried recording the CD with bat guano. It sounded like shit.

In the wrong hands a pod XT actually creates Bat Guano.
90% of the stock sounds should be erased.
Then, if you know what you're doing you can build very user friendly combinations of well known tones and effects.
In the proper hands it's a pretty good tool for dialing up sounds quickly and saving time when recording.
If you are looking to simulate amps, by using a pedal, then you probably believe an Auto-Suck is the best way to have sex.
You can't replace an amp with a pedal.
As an effect processor it has just what you need, if you know how to use it.

don't knock the autosuck.
8/28/2008 9:34:00 AM
and please, don't suck the autoknock.
8/28/2008 9:47:52 AM
Ken, but how do you get rid of the fizz?
8/28/2008 10:26:16 AM
embrace the fizz
8/28/2008 10:31:56 AM
that fizz is almost impossbile to model with tubes.
