Today's 2008 Blues 'n Brews in Westford

Well, today was the best Blues 'n Brews I've yet worked at. From the opening act, Jason James & The Houserockers, to Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters, they all totally ROCKED!!
MC'ed once again by my old friend Carter Alan from WZLX Sunday Morning Blues, it was as always the blues show of the year.
Jason James did his usual flawless Gene Vincent show, followed by Ottomatic Slim, who welcomed special surprise guest Magic Dick from J. Geils Band, who did a NOTE FOR NOTE PERFECT version of "Whammer Jammer." Everyone was in total awe - very impressive.
Next up was the Bruce Marshall Group. What can I say about Bruce Marshall that doesn't include the words "Boston Music Legend?" He and his band delivered a very professional set that proved why those three words are always invoked. Not only great songwriting and vocal harmonies, but some truly burning guitar work.
They were followed by The Love Dogs, who not only featured yet another local legend, Alison Lizonse on keys, accordian and vocals, but also a smoking sax & rythm section and the most color coordinated outfits of the day. Jump blues mixed with torch songs and roots blues. Excellent stuff!
Finally Ronnie Earl and The Broadcasters took the stage, and they ripped it up with over an hour of amazing instrumental blues. You'd think that the audience would tire of no vocals after a few songs, but quite the contrary, they were literally dancing in the aisle, the front, and anywhere else they could. We had a hard time convincing people that the show was actually over...
I've been working at this show for 5 or 6 years now and this was the biggest and best one I've seen yet. Not only great music but great food and superior microbrew beers. Carter and I are already looking forward to next years show.

I played some outdoor show in Pepperell quite a few years ago, and the Love Dogs played the set before us. (Believe me, that ordering had nothing to do with the relative talents of the bands involved. I'm sure they must have had another gig later that day.)
I was absolutely in awe. I keep meaning to catch them again, but I never seem to pull it off. That drummer grooved like not many others, and could keep a perfectly cool groove going even just with his hi-hat.
