YYZ (For Pete in One Louder)
This a reprise of a post I made months ago for Pete in the band "One Louder".
Here's a link to a live recording of "YYZ" when I was playing with "Those Three Guys" five years ago.
My favorite part of the recording is when we stop on a dime at the end of the tune ( after nailing it pretty good ) and you can hear a pin drop in the room—always makes me smile.
Pete(Early) was doing the string parts with the Roland Guitar Synth.
Crank it up!!
Oh, and as an answer to riffdaddy's "When do you play music?", do you mean like this........?

The keyboard ()synth( sounds f*cked up a little bit-
Just in the sense that you can tell how much more 'comfortable' the song is when Pete picks up his git-
But seriously f*ck me for critiquing you
What a sonofabitcher of a tune to cover and you guys hauled ass on it
right on
Was that drummer the guy with the skull cap who sang 'La Grange' through that crazy effects thingy y'all had? You should post that song-
That guy was great-
WTG crazy-
I still can't believe how highly you were spoken of- not that I don't think you're a good guy- I know you are, but Matt Lindi (who is friends with MILHOUSE fer chrissakes) seriously couldn't say enough good things about you- he got all nostalgic and serious when I brought you up, you guys clearly go way backl

Why thanks Chippa!
Yeah, that was the Roland Guitar Synth. The opening sounds muddled without the guitar playing those notes in unison with the bass and drums. It congeals as soon as he starts playing the notes on the guitar.
I figure that Geddy Lee employs the use of pedals to play the synth chords when they do it live so that his hands are free to play the bass.
Yeah, that's the drummer, Arte, singing La Grange through the harmonizer but I never got that one on tape.
I wish Matt didn't live so far away.....

He Stich,
Juice turned me on to that animation a while ago! Thanks for hooking me up though. it's the thought that counts!
I love that video!
9/15/2008 4:00:31 PM
Thanks so much for referencing me. It always makes my day.
I've seen the animation before. It's done by motion capture. A drummer wears a suit with markers. When he plays the tune cameras capture the motion data then it's transfered to the 3D model. For me the whole thing is kinda lifeless. As much effort as it takes to creat animation something like that is only about 1/100th as good as it could be. Of course as an animator and total fan of animation since I was about 5 or 6 I have a high level of expectation when it comes to animation. That is all..
9/16/2008 2:59:57 PM
Riff, I'd love to see some of your work!.....
9/16/2008 3:34:11 PM
Riff - SInce "MySpace" domains are blocked from my work 'puter, I'll assume the video is the "Neil Peart" 3d animation. If so, you would be mistaken re: motion-cap.
From what I understand (reading an early article when that first came-out a few years ago) it was all done manually. No mo-cap at all. It's all timeline based.
It's far from fluid and flawless - but for someone who is (was - at the time) fairly new - I think he did a respectable job, all-things-considered.
I think you and I have skewed viewpoints since we're both into this sort of thing. And off-topic... tell me you saw (at least the first 45-minutes of) Wall-E...
9/16/2008 3:41:12 PM
I love that yyz crazy cat. that is a good time right there.
now as for animations, if you hate em, i say TOODLES to YOU.
9/16/2008 4:24:39 PM
Compared to MY expectations everything that ever happened or was ever created anywhere by anyone completely sucks
9/16/2008 4:44:05 PM
well if anything that ever happend was actually done right, it wouldn't be 1/100th as sucky as it is.
9/16/2008 4:46:17 PM
Your expectations are nowhere near as splendid as mine are
9/16/2008 4:51:19 PM
Don't you dare reference me.
9/16/2008 4:51:44 PM
Too-mther-fkin-oodles to you.
9/16/2008 4:52:03 PM
f*ck that
cock a doodle toodles to you f*ckpole
9/16/2008 4:53:10 PM
You are a lifeless sh*twad. I know, i've been evaluating sh*twads like you since i was 5.
9/16/2008 4:59:06 PM
Mill, to be honest I haven't the foggiest notion what Riff (Toodles) was saying in the above reply. All I said was that Juice had first turned me on to that animation months ago when I first posted that mp3. I said that I loved the animation—why not? It's a nice piece of work!
Now Riff comes on saying, "Thanks so much for referencing me. It always makes my day."
Huh?
Then he goes on to say how much better he can animate that the YYZ video attached. I mean, what's the point here?
All I could say back to him was "I'd love to see some of your work" I meant that. Really. But at the same time, don't just boast and brag on your ass like a jealous twelve-year old "one-up-man"; prove it by nonchalantly posting it so we can bear witness to how "good" it is for ourselves.
9/16/2008 5:00:05 PM
Come on people, this criticism isn't going to write itself.
9/16/2008 5:13:36 PM
You mean.......no more "stroke your own"? :-(
9/16/2008 5:43:39 PM
lol i know Crazy cat, sometimes its that sorta post that gives chippa & i a reason to live!
Life gives ya toodels, make lemonade.
;)
9/16/2008 6:11:56 PM
I especially like "That is all" at the end of his post. Like Lt. Commander Queeg making an announcement on USS Caine (the good ship Tootsie Role).
He should have preempted his post with "Now hear this.....
I'm great and YOU SUCK"; or, "There will be a magic show on the poop deck at 14:00 hours.... That is all......."
Commander Toodles of the good ship Tootsie Role
Mister Rogers eat your heart out!!
9/16/2008 7:12:02 PM
lol.
End Transmission.
9/16/2008 7:25:38 PM
Paul, you made reference to Riffdaddy in your original post. Maybe he didn't see it when you first posted it (it was from August) and he's now letting you know he has seen it ... ??
Personally, I didn't see any need to post what you did. In trying to make it sound like Riffdaddy was an idiot you came across as sounding like an ass. But that's my own opinion. I think you're an ok guy Paul, but if you go back and read the whole thing I don't think any of your comments apply. Riffdaddy simply made a comment about something he knows about ... much the same way anyone else here posts about things they know about.
9/16/2008 8:30:27 PM
No Diane, the whole mess actually started on another thread when he blatantly insulted me from out of left field and for no good reason......
Believe me, I don't like talking to people like that, really. Why is it though, that they feel that they have cart blanche to say nasty and insulting things to me? I make every effort to be courteous and open-minded in my interactions with people.
"That is all" heee heee hee!!!
9/16/2008 11:56:07 PM
One more thing Diane: you'll notice that my first reply to his post was, "I'd love to see you're work". I said that even though I was somewhat confused by the way he worded his remarks because they seemed rambling, confused and out-of-context as well as a bit braggy. The more I thought about what he said, the more ridiculous it seemed—and the other guys picked-up on that as well. So that's why I came back and said that; because it had good reason to aggravate me.
9/17/2008 12:06:00 AM
Thank you for explaining your side of it Paul ... my apologies.
9/17/2008 6:24:35 AM

Come on people, when someone tosses something out there for opinions, opinions is what they should get. For TOTAL clarity on my comments:
First off: Thanks so much for referencing me. It always makes my day.
This means: For some reason some people here feel they need to reference me or quote me all the time. It's rather funny like I'm someone who matters. I'm just another Joe trying to get through every day just like most of you. Who cares what I think other than me? If you do that's your problem.
Second: The 3D drummer. I never said it wasn't good, I said I wasn't very impressed with it. Could I do such an animation, absolutely. I've been doing 3D since 1996. I won a dozen awards for 3D illustration between 97 and 2001 and that was when I first started. Now adays I strictly do 3D for work so animating aliens, dinosaurs and musicians is something I don't get to do not even for fun any more. 3D that impresses me is stuff we see on the big screen: Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Starship Troopers, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc...
So CrazyCat or Paul if that is your name don't take my remarks to heart as they are my opinions. My original comment from your earlier post that said "When do you play music?" was because what you were playing in that video sounded like a bunch of noise to me. Just like real good jazz, rap, or grunge (which is all good music to someone else) sounds like noise to me. Kirk out...
9/17/2008 9:03:47 AM
Me too
I think I'm a regular guy too, but everyone around here for some reason exalts me like I'm the f*cking greatest thing in the world
I don't try and be all awesome, but everyone keeps talking about me and f*cking makes me out to be this super-smart talented geniusy genius
But I can't even be bothered to read the sh*t anyone posts about me so I wouldn't know what anyone says about me nor do I give a flying fingerf*ck anyways
END OF STORY
9/17/2008 9:20:22 AM
I do strictly 3D for work.
I bet i would impress the shit out of riff.
9/17/2008 9:40:17 AM
I don't f*cking think so
but I don't have time to read any of the posts around here because I'm so f*cking busy so I wouldn't even know what the f*ck he wrote
9/17/2008 9:46:44 AM
I can't even be bothered to read my own f*cking posts
9/17/2008 9:48:06 AM
Seriously I don't have time for all this f*cking heralding
I'm far too busy with important things but I'm not that important, it's just that everyone else feels like I'm important
9/17/2008 9:50:34 AM
Milhouse, let's see some stuff. As a fan of 3D I really enjoy peoples different perspectives. Here are a few of my favs. These were all done in the late 90's (so long ago).
3dxperience.com/3dimages/
9/17/2008 10:08:10 AM
I'll dig up some newer work related stuff as well.
9/17/2008 10:08:35 AM
Also ThatGuy, I haven't seen Walle yet but will when it come s out on Video. Ever since I got my theater screen I don't see as many flics at the movie as I used to. I only go to the must sees on my list.
9/17/2008 10:10:57 AM
you'd think you died and went to 3d heaven.

9/17/2008 10:40:12 AM
Well - since we're posting links... this is some 3D I did about 6-7 years ago. No animation... not my *thing*. I just like modeling & surfacing:
scottfinlayson.com/portfolio/...
9/17/2008 11:36:18 AM
Milhouse - cool stuff - did you model the 3D characters from the game source files...? Or do you work for the company that "prints" in 3D...? Not sure what aspect you're involved in.
9/17/2008 11:53:36 AM
I am not even almost f*cking impressed
9/17/2008 12:22:58 PM
Killjoy.
:D
9/17/2008 12:47:37 PM
Now if any of those were a 3-D image of David Lee Roth or a goat....
9/17/2008 12:54:36 PM
Okay Riff, no problem man...I'm sorry. I was thinking about everything I said last night and it was really bothering me. I felt bad. I'm glad we could clear the air! I don't mean half the shit I say when I get like that. I just like playing with words :-)
9/17/2008 12:59:45 PM
Impressive stuff Scott!!
9/17/2008 1:30:10 PM
You too Riff!!
9/17/2008 1:31:44 PM
These combine 3D, 2D, video and text to create kiosk style presentations. It all about selling boxes or software or something. Still fun to manage and create.
9/17/2008 2:41:53 PM
You funny bastard!
