Another ignoble experiment down the tubes. DTS = Down the shitter.

The goat destroyed the restrooms, kicking the stalls in and chewing through the plumbing fixtures.

You all may recall that I raised a red flag when he first posted -- and got FLAMED for it.

I feel vindicated.

I always try to support any new business, especially one that wants to work with local musicians, but Club DTS only wanted to exploit young bands for his own benefit. I mean, come on. 3, 4, or 5 bands, all fighting over a fraction of the door, AFTER the soundman gets paid, AND each band's portion is based on how many people they supposedly brought in? And who exactly is working the door? Result: Bucket 'o Blood.

I had that scam figrured out around 1977...

Case in point: The Club, in Central Square, Cambridge.

Yeah, I know, I'm really dating myself, but they ran the exact same con. Three bands, who have to man the door, and therefore take the heat if someone shows a fake ID, plus you had to pay the soundman, or provide your own. To top it all off, the club's regulars GOT IN FREE. So if you wanted to make any money, you had to milk your friends and family for it. And the club charged them top price for not only booze/beer but even for sodas.

Ah, the good old days...

Anyone remember Mr. C's? Same deal. At least Three Copper Men had strippers...

oh the Club, the first time I ever wanted to punch someone in a wheel chair. Bob Lafee I think his name was. I remember going there to see a friends band and the Bruins were on and no one was there and him complaining about no shows then 1/2 hour later the place is packed for there set and he says wait until the Bruins are over. Plus they didn't get paid (see Morganic above). What was the name of it after? It was the same deal with them also. Now it's a dry cleaners I hope.

Mr. C's? You betcha Wayno!! I used to play there in the mid-70s'.

In the 60s' all the great bands played there as they were coming up: Tull, Zeppelin, Cream. Unbelievable times the 70s' were.

Every day of the week had a happy hour at one club or another. The drinking age was 18. Remember the Webb Brook in Billerica?
Bands had house gigs and could play at the same place 5-6 nights per week. It was like one, continuous party.

I remember practically getting it on with some girl under this huge round table one night(at Mr. C's) with everybody still sitting around it one night. No one cared; it didn't seem to matter.

The energy was incredible, "no holes barred......err that is, no bars holed...or whatever....Rock n' roll with total abandonment.
"Ziggy played guitar"

The White Buffalo in Methuen was the last of the great ballrooms in this area.

I was living with my band in Newton Corner. We played the Boston/Cambridge clubs (Bunratty's, Jack's, Jonathan Swift's, Jumbo Lounge, Ding Ho, The Rat, The Club, Cantone's, etc.) as well as The Main Act in Lynn, The Zoo in Manchester, NH and The Firehouse in Pawtucket, RI. Lots of crazy stuff going on in those days. To this day I have very little sense of smell left.

Lowell seemed like the boonies to us at the time, but we played at Three Copper Men for two of three nights, but that's a LONG story...

Morganic writes:
Actually the strip club was downstairs and the band was upstairs, at least when we were there. They wouldn't let the band go down to the strip club, and there was NOBODY upstairs except the bartender and the waitress, who was also his daughter. She kept playing "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille" by Kenny Rogers on the jukebox - over and over and over...

Ah Jonathan Swifts! The last time I played there we were opening for James Montgomery, who I was booking at that time, so I booked us (Blind Lemon Pledge & His Seeing Eye Dogs) as the opener. We had Doug Sutler from Johanna Wild & France on bass, Paul Scali on drums, "Sax Gordon" Beadle on sax, and AJ Wachtel and I on guitars and vocals. Gordon jumped up on a table and played lying down on it, to the delight of the crowd. Swifts always gave free 16 oz drafts to the band so AJ got totally shattered. We left the crowd in a frenzy and told James & Co. to "knock 'em dead" and then we proceeded to help ourselves to the cold cut platter and ice cold Heinekens in the dressing room. I loved playing there! Of course, unloading was a bitch as was parking in Harvard Sq...

Ah, the Three Copper Men. Played there a bunch. One night the roadie told all of the strippers that the band would buy 'em breakfast. We all ended up at some long-gone place on Bridge Street and got kicked out for being too rowdy.

I remember it as a good time. 8-)
