Yes - America
For all you Yes fans out there. A nice comparison between old and new.
The first video shows Yes in the studio recording "America". The second is a live performance from many years later.
Bill Bruford is on drums in the original with Alan White in the live performance.

Alan White was a substantial influence of mine. Bruford is great & all... but by the time *I* got into yes, it was the 90125 & Big Generator era. I later went backwards through the earlier catalog of work. Alan was "the Man" to me for a long time.

That band is a big part of my upbringing too!
Have you seen the John Lennon documentary "Imagine"? Before his Yes days, Alan White was the drummer with Lennon's Plastic Ono Band. He can be seen in that film when John demos the song for the band before recording.

Ever hear Keith Emerson and The Nice perform "America". That's my favorite!

Chris Squire's then unique sound inspired my to buy my Rickenbacker 4001 back in 1974. Back then, it cost $425. Wish I still had it now.

Somehow that finger taping just doesn't seem right on a Rickenbacker bass.

Did they play "Horse With No Name" or "Sister Golden Hair"?

The composition "America" covered by The Nice, I believe is taken from "West Side Story" and composed by Leonard Bernstein.
The Yes song "America" is principally a version of Paul Simon's song with a short ode to Bernstein's America, cleverly placed in the middle of the "overture" or instrumental introduction to the song. This melody is played by the bass guitar: "I like to be in America......Everything free in America...."
Here's a link to that scene in the movie......
