5/21/2008 11:09:58 PM
Tony said: "may I bring my rig and join the house band?"
I think you know the answer is HELL YA!!!
Jebus, if we get Wayne, Plexi, Matt, and Big Bro Dave to all show up and play, this thing'll raise the roof!!!!
The Howlin' Wolf Box will be playing non-stop in my house until Wednesday!
5/21/2008 11:16:50 PM
cool
5/22/2008 8:18:44 AM
I might suck a little...but I'll be there. I need some stress relief from my job search activities.
5/22/2008 3:43:57 PM
This is really shaping up!
5/22/2008 4:36:04 PM
yeah.........well I would go ........but I wouldn't play........I would never reveal my secrets with other guitar players in the house.
5/22/2008 4:48:48 PM
I don't want them stealing my licks......... I only have a few and they are very precious and dear to me. It would be a shame to have them stolen.
5/22/2008 4:52:45 PM
I think you should come and bring your Johnson! Cigar Box Guitar that is.
5/22/2008 5:01:32 PM
Why.......The man will be there himself. He could bring 10 of them.
5/22/2008 5:04:16 PM
You should come jam, is my point!
5/22/2008 5:07:16 PM
Calling all blues harp players!
5/23/2008 1:10:24 AM
I miss everything.....
5/23/2008 2:31:59 AM
I will indeed be bringing and playing a Cigar Box Geeeetar!
5/23/2008 10:22:41 AM
aww call in sick that night Big Daddy!!!
5/23/2008 10:34:43 AM
Geez, as long as we worked at the Music Mall together, we actually never played together, Carl. I'll probably make it to this one for giggles (I live right around the corner).
5/23/2008 11:10:07 AM
I know huh? So many years ago!
Can't wait!
5/23/2008 11:21:43 AM
Just relax and play the blues!
5/23/2008 10:24:09 PM
Horn players too, let's not forget horn players! Where has saxman been? Does anyone know him outside of the message board?
5/24/2008 12:52:09 AM
here I is, Cap'n
and yes I would love to stand in with you guys ,
thanks for thinking of me.
on another note, Im gigging with a new band,
Dell Smart and Exit in in a horn section with
Downtown Johnny from Big Trouble,
were playing for about 3000 people at the Red Hook Brewery
tommorow at noon after a 5k benefit run for Kemplars Brain Foundation.
I will try to get him to bring his Bone out also.
5/24/2008 9:44:39 AM
I am hoping I'll be able to get to this ...
5/24/2008 10:23:49 AM
Cool saxman!
c'mon diane, you be there! :-)
5/24/2008 11:29:10 AM
A room full of guitar players can get pretty dangerous..........I'm gonna stand back and watch.
5/24/2008 4:51:06 PM
Just in case, I'll bring my collection of "Johnson" harps (courtesy of Mr. Johnson himself.)
5/24/2008 5:20:42 PM
Woah lots of talent up there.....would there be any room for a young'n like me up there?
5/24/2008 5:26:25 PM
I'm going to try my best to get there Carl. I would love to get some pictures of this grand event!
Saxman .. it sounds like it is going to be a wonderful day for you tomorrow :-)
5/24/2008 6:08:37 PM
Can keytarists play the blues???
5/24/2008 6:14:18 PM
Young'uns are always welcome. We love to see that there's someone to carry the torch after us geezers are gone. Seriously!
5/24/2008 6:14:51 PM
Keytar?? Hell yeah!!! Bring it on!!!!
Can you play blues in a diminished key??? (there are only 3 of them...)
(I can... hee hee hee!!!!!!!!!!)
5/24/2008 6:17:56 PM
See, all that money at Berklee wasn't wasted, was it?
Of course, I have no freakin' idea what the heck you're talkin' about. Diminished key? Blues? Just tell me where the I is and I think we'll be OK.
5/24/2008 7:17:42 PM
I actually wonder what the Grand Total ounces of beer that I consumed while I was officially a college student would be. A rather scary number I expect.
It's relatively simple actually: diminished is just alternating half and whole steps. The chords are all minor 3rds. ANY of the notes can be the root. Just like a whole tone (augmented) scale. REALLY fun to mess with if you have some kind of echo device and a multi-track recorder.
But I bet you already knew that.
It's actually all relative my friend.
5/24/2008 7:36:50 PM
Man--- I wish I could go...damn work gets in the way-- Do you think my boss would mind if I went for a "liquid" dinner??? Maybe-- considering I may be in charge of blood transfusions that night!!! Hope you guys have a great night!!! Ill be thinking of ya!!!
5/25/2008 1:28:12 AM
Blues
5/25/2008 2:05:37 PM
Indubitably.
5/26/2008 11:36:55 AM
^Bump^
I will see you folks there!
5/26/2008 5:59:49 PM
Alrighty missdiane!!
5/26/2008 9:23:09 PM
I asked my daughter if she and her boyfriend might want to go for a while. All I got was a "hmmmm.. I'll let you know". LOL.
5/26/2008 10:11:10 PM
"My question to you Ray is, what the heck are the blues and who gets them?"
"Well Tom, the blues ain't nothing but a good man feelin' bad..."
Carl are we singing through an old tube amp on Wed? lol
5/27/2008 12:16:08 AM
"Carl are we singing through an old tube amp on Wed? lol"
That'd be too high tech. We'll be yelling through megaphones.
5/27/2008 1:20:19 AM
Nice!
Great for the pipes. You'll be sounding like Howlin Wolf soon enough! lol
5/27/2008 8:30:31 AM
that's the plan!!
5/27/2008 10:26:28 AM
We wanna see lots of blues fans a musicians out Wednesday night!
Come to play!!
5/27/2008 11:59:37 AM
this is going to be SMOKIN!!!
5/27/2008 1:11:50 PM
I'm going just so I can find out exactly what "blues in a "Diminished Key" is?
5/27/2008 1:17:02 PM
Me too, Jim.
I'm betting that so long as I stay on the root for bass, I'll be OK.
5/27/2008 1:58:23 PM
Stopit with all that theory talk!!!!
5/27/2008 2:05:41 PM
Yeah Arte, just don't let the bass get unplugged and all will be fine!!
;-)
5/27/2008 2:06:51 PM
Yeah, yeah, yeah.....lose your cord one time and they never let you forget it....
Worse than a wardrobe slip....the song needed some dynamic tension anyway.
5/27/2008 2:23:41 PM
We're planning a wardrobe slip for him on Wednesday.
5/27/2008 3:20:38 PM
oh baby
5/27/2008 3:21:17 PM
i would go to this but i have an appointment at the cross roads, to make some deals and such, i'm taking my big ole caddilac so that the soul-less big legged women who says she's got a man child comming on that southbound train wont break my lonesome riverside mojo before i get back to that black cat in the barnyard where the 13 roosters are goin back to louisiana to shuck steel in that ole mill until i lay me down at the old white house on the hill where the hounds began to howl.
5/27/2008 3:58:00 PM
Milhouse, mind if I use that over a 1-4-5 in E?
Louisiana roosters shuckin' steel? That's blues imagery at its finest. ;-)
5/27/2008 4:22:29 PM
They be a-shuckin' and a-cluckin'
all over my neighborhood...
Louisiana steel shuckin' roosters
with gravy sho' taste mighty good!
5/27/2008 4:38:33 PM
dems is some hard driving roosters - they shuck steel five long years, but they too lazy to crow for days.
you can do it in E, but you better make that bass line walk and i want to hear it shuffle.
5/27/2008 4:41:10 PM
I mo b theah....and Dr. Johnson I shall retrieve my beloved P during said evening of blues.
5/27/2008 4:50:33 PM
Don't worry, Milhouse. I can't play anywhere but behind the beat even if I tried. Blues is the only genre where nobody catches on that I'm just slow. :-0
5/27/2008 5:47:52 PM
I just don't wanna hear any of them pussy chords.
5/27/2008 5:57:44 PM
I love that movie! I wish they'd show it more often.
5/27/2008 6:05:51 PM
I love that clip from that movie! thats one of my all time favorite movie clips. I'm definatly gonna come out tomorrow....if i can't get my driving instructor to drop me off then i'll get there somehow....i won't miss this for anything =)
5/27/2008 6:54:06 PM
just let it flow on 2 & 4, and arte, and stay away from the cold harded woman from the red house, and keep your rider by your side.
5/27/2008 7:00:11 PM
Milhouse has been lying in a ghetto flat, cold and numb. He heard the rats tell the bedbugs to give the roaches some.
5/27/2008 7:58:37 PM
Well, i WAS in the ghetto, but after i got the Johnny conkeroo it set the hellhounds on my trail, so i sprinkled hot foot poweder around my door, and now i'm going to Rosedale to hear the mockingbirds sing for his dinner down on the killing floor.
5/27/2008 8:13:36 PM
Milhouse, I swear, if it wasn't for real bad luck, you wouldn't have no luck at all.
5/27/2008 8:24:36 PM
Are ya gonna go down and trade fours with the big boys, Milly? Are ya? Are ya? Come on, put up or shut up!
5/27/2008 8:28:38 PM
Well, since they're obviously good cooks, perhaps they'd like to trade petite fours with us.
(I'm not trying to be a wise ass, I actually do love to cook!)
And I love to play my guitar. Go figure.
Ya know, I really LOVE to do trade-offs on guitar.
That's really fun!
And I know for a fact that some of the best players here like playing that game, too!
Let's have some fun!!!
5/27/2008 8:44:15 PM
Yes siree! We're gonna have fun!
5/28/2008 12:30:49 AM
bump for tonight!
5/28/2008 6:29:03 AM
Should I bring a guitar, I never know with these jam type things ?
5/28/2008 11:07:03 AM
You should definitely bring an AMP... ;^{D>
5/28/2008 11:50:57 AM
Wish we could make it there tonight...Looks like a good time!!!!
5/28/2008 11:55:08 AM
"You'll like Jack Butler!"
5/28/2008 12:02:07 PM
Sorry Wayne, the couple i have in are both customers amps. If I had mine I would bring it, but it's out with a Dealer. I dare not risk a customers amp on a jam night.
5/28/2008 12:36:56 PM
plexi in the house???!!!!!
still got the blues??? will that fit into tonights "set list"?????
5/28/2008 1:20:58 PM
Sure Plexi, bring a guitar!
Amps are welcome too!
Nice small old school blues amps, preferably with rips and cigarette burns! :-)
5/28/2008 1:37:13 PM
Countdown to the Blues Jam:
T-minus 5 hr. 45 min.
5/28/2008 1:42:24 PM
Countdowns are for piano bars. We just chill and show up at blues nights when we feel like it.
5/28/2008 1:46:43 PM
Touche'
5/28/2008 1:52:14 PM
People don't say "Touche'" at blues jams either.
If there is ANY french spoken at a blues jam, it is "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez".
5/28/2008 2:08:31 PM
so will there be enough guitars to go around or should i bring mine with me? i cant quite decipher =)
5/28/2008 3:09:53 PM
i'd like to not use mine if possible....its a bit of a piece =)
5/28/2008 3:10:49 PM
I would suggest to anyone coming to bring their own guitar for sure. Small amps are welcome too!
5/28/2008 3:34:22 PM
ugh...............guitars and amps.............ugh..........I'm switching back to clarinet.
5/28/2008 4:44:31 PM
Tonight only, Matt Fetters breaks out his clarinet and jams!!
It's been far too long since he's had a long, black, cylindrical object in his mou... oh... never mind.
This is my last bump before leaving the house!
BLUES! TONIGHT!
PRINCETON STATION
7:30 - 10:30
ARTE KENYON
CARL JOHNSON
RICK FORZESE
AND ME, AND YOU!!!
5/28/2008 5:12:33 PM
Unfortunately I will not be attending this wonderful event. I just got home from work and have brought work home with me because I have a deadline to meet.
I am truly disappointed that I am not able to go.
5/28/2008 7:23:22 PM
correction. You got the blues.
5/28/2008 7:45:05 PM
Now, THAT was fun!
5/29/2008 12:30:09 AM
Yes Barb, that was a blast!!
5/29/2008 12:56:30 AM
Paul.............lemme give you some of my juju.
5/29/2008 1:13:14 AM
I second BarbieK.
Tonight WAS fun!
Blues jam's can either be really great, or a clusterf**ck. Tonight it was the former times 10!!! I was very impressed with everyone that played. Alan Phillips, you're still my hero.
Tony Carle, you're still my hero. Carl Johnson, where do I get a leather wrist band like that? John Russell was supposed to hook me up, but he's all rocked star'd out.
Kudos to Captain Morgan for making tonight such an "accessible" evening.
Matt........go get you're f***in' shinebox!!!
5/29/2008 1:16:40 AM
Wow! Where do I begin?
Thank you ArteK, Carl Johnson, Senor Bacardi, and Rick Forzese
Thank you Tony Carle, Morganic, Plexi, Jim Zaroulis, Both Billmeans, Saxman, Tony SIlva, Mike Crutcher, and CrazyCat!
Please tell me if I missed anyone who got up onstage and played, I can't believe I remembered all of the above!
Thanks so much to all the LowellRocks folks who came out to listen as well!
We had fun!
5/29/2008 1:25:53 AM
Next month, Sinatra!
5/29/2008 1:28:30 AM
It sounds like it was a fun night. I will just have to try to make it to the next one!
5/29/2008 5:11:45 AM
that was an AMAZING assembly of talent!! we wished we could of stayed longer but alas!!! early mornings come WAY too early (like 4:15am for paintcan, 5:45am for me!)
arte k, like how low can you go, man??? sounds of louis armstrong but with an arte k twist!!
carl johnson is just plain phenomanal!!
morganic is just the MAN for that bluesy harp and bluesy vocals!!
and all that SAX music!!! the ayottes, saxman ripping it up. WOW!!
and did you say next month is SINATRA?? as in like piano, tux, candles, brandy snifter SINATRA NIGHT????
paintcan is going to HAVE to get thursday morning off for that one!!!
5/29/2008 7:25:57 AM
Crazy Cat, now you have to convince Matt that the actor in that scene IS NOT Dennis Farina!! I've tried, he won't concede to me.
It's FRANK VINCENT!!!!
5/29/2008 8:16:40 AM
That *was* a great time. I think blues jams are in the future for that room. I agree with JZ that blues jams can go either way, but this one seemed to work pretty well. It helps to have someone playing the whole time, keeping things rolling, pointing to soloists, etc., such as CM. Nice harp playing, Carl. Maybe if I know early enough and aren't teaching so late, I'll bring my Variax and XT Live set-up next time. Blues jams with banjo and/or sitar are in high demand these days...
5/29/2008 8:33:07 AM
Makes me want to start smoking again!
CHESTERFIELD'S!! Unfiltered!
5/29/2008 9:44:20 AM
Yes, that was a blast!!!!!
Man, do horns make the blues swing better or what?! Those big band numbers like Sweet Home Chicago and Hey Bartender were awesome.
And what a drummer that Rick Forzese is. It was effortless swinging with him.
Really, really good time. Thanks a million for asking me Carl. It was an absolute blast playing the upright bass with that ensemble.
5/29/2008 10:58:10 AM
It was my pleasure Arte, thank YOU!
One of these days I still WILL get out to see Red Devil Lye, and I'll bring the bari sax!
5/29/2008 11:17:29 AM
Great hang last night. Thanks again Carl for having me.
Everyone sounded great!
5/29/2008 12:33:32 PM
Hey Matt, what movie is that from with Chris Walkin?
I had a great time meeting everyone and jamming.
You should organize another one Carl. They'll just keep getting better every time!
I just learned that I'll be hosting the open jam at Linda's in Hudson with Those Three Guys tonight. That can develop into a serious jam fest as well.
Maybe some keyboard action with JZ? Me and Arte can play the Eruption part from Tarkus!
We used to do Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain. I think that we'll be resurrecting that one!
5/29/2008 12:36:46 PM
Crazy Cat, the movie is "True Romance".
5/29/2008 1:19:38 PM
Got it! Thanks!
Walkin is one of my favorite actors.
5/29/2008 1:48:38 PM
Sounds like it was awesome! I heard it was a wild crazy drunken lustful fair. . . no wait, that was JZ's piano bar.
5/29/2008 3:17:33 PM
JZ was there last night, he brings that atmosphere with him
wherever he goes.
;-)
5/29/2008 3:20:35 PM
That's right. JZ was holding court at the bar. And Matt was there looking like Marlon Brando in "Last Tango In Paris"!
I hope that you can make the next jam!
5/29/2008 4:10:12 PM
I can't wait for this tonight, it sounds like it will be alot of fun!!
5/29/2008 4:15:26 PM
YES!!!
5/29/2008 4:32:07 PM
Oh my God!!!
5/29/2008 4:33:33 PM
once again I had a whole lotta fun playing with a great bunch of musicians.
cant wait till next time.
5/29/2008 4:42:36 PM
Jim, there's another jamfest at Linda's in hudson, NH tonight. C'mon down, We'll do Mama Kin with the sax in it like on the original!
5/29/2008 5:03:33 PM
C'mon out milhouse!!!
5/29/2008 5:04:40 PM
milhouse has a play-date with the rest of milhouse, to get ready for our mind-numbingly awesome gig comeing up in Avon this saturday at Schofields.
5/29/2008 5:40:16 PM
ah, who am i kidding.
5/29/2008 5:40:30 PM
Yes it was definitely a good night. I had an extremely stressfull day and after a few tunes from some great talent, I forgot all about work. There definitely should be a repeat.
But I have to admit, the music was good yes, but the comic releaf of JZ and Matt had me in stiches.......I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
5/29/2008 7:22:47 PM
I'm wishing they were doing it again TONIGHT!
5/29/2008 7:37:11 PM
Matt and I can come to your house and do our comedy routine if you like..........Oh, you mean you wish the MUSIC was happening again tonight, sorry.
5/29/2008 8:14:45 PM
Yeah, that too. ;-)
5/29/2008 8:45:03 PM

The more I think about it, the more I remember things.
I'd like to specifically thank Morganic for playing so much harp! When I considered doing this thing, I immediately thought about every criticism I've ever heard regarding a blues jam, and the biggest was always, "too many f'ing guitars"
We all know Morganic is a smokin' guitar player, but I'm guessing he looked at the situation, and saw that harp was needed a bit more, and so he played mostly harp. Thanks Wayne!
And thanks to CrazyCat for suggesting we play "Messin' With The Kid" which for some reason I didn't think of, and it's one of my favorites!
I have very few regrets regarding that Blues Jam, but the main one is, I didn't keep father and son Bill up there long enough! And I meant to ask young Bill, how's the sax coming along? You still playing? Next time we do something like that I want to see sax too! You're a fine guitarist but I have a sentimental leaning toward the sax you understand!
Again, huge thanks to Arte, Carl, Rick, and Dave for being my "official friends" for the evening, and to everyone else who came out to play, listen, or quote mafia movie lines. :-)
5/30/2008 12:25:33 AM
Could have been much worse Carl. One more drink and you would have gotten quotes from "Pumping Iron" and we really would have scared everyone away........
Most organized blues jam I had ever seen by the way!
5/30/2008 12:40:35 AM
I have to say ...........I saw Wayne play at Johnny's and WOW!! I was absolutely amazed at his playing. I knew he was good but I was kinda put in my place when I watched and listened. There is some great talent here on LR. Everyone at that jam sounded great. It is nice to hear everyone's style and differences. Great night.
5/30/2008 7:18:35 AM
When Wayne is not complaining about something he's actually a muthafu**er!!
:)
Go re-learn "Birds of Fire" now Morganic!!!
5/30/2008 8:19:53 AM
JZ said "Most organized blues jam I had ever seen by the way!"
Thank you!!!
