Another Variax Conversion completed
I recently completed my second Variax conversion. This guitar was a Fender Strat with a midi setup. It was quite the task. I did take pictures along the way and wanted to share them with my fellow Variaxers!

Looks nice riff. Who owns this one, someone from NASA? 8')
Lot's of knobs and switches for sure.

Client was from Florida. He decided on this complex combo himself. It was quite involved. When I did mine I simplified the electronics and removed all of the tone pots. He wanted tone pots and of course the midi was also there. The git was packed to the gills. Couldn't really fit anything else!

Holy Crap that's involved!

Man! I'm over here struggling with a dremmel, a uke neck, and a cigar box!!!
Thanks for documenting that incredible custom job.

looks like you bought the template kit Don?

Matt, yes I sprung for the variax routing template kit. Glad I did too. It made the work much easier. I have a second guitar I just started working on that is a little less involved. Frank (this client) has also referred a few friends to me so I may consider another job or two.

Jeez Don..........I might ask you to do my other conversions...lol........seriously...I got a few more 500's I have to do something with.

I'm curious what you did for the jack routing. I can never seem to get a long enough bit to go all the way through with the thickness of a jig/template. What bit and jid did you use?
4/15/2008 4:06:38 PM
jid should be jig

It looks fizzy.

Your asshole looks fizzy. or fuzzy

Matt, I made my own jig for the jack route. I bought the routing bit from Stewmac.com and it is longer than a typical bit. I was able to get it done in a few passes.
