Smooth Arte
I stumbled across this in my travels
youtube.com/watch?v=q1rdcj7vk...this is the guy I used to follow around the big easy-
This is a good song IMO, but not the ideal representation of what I was thinking of when I likened your stuff to his- when I get the chance, I'll drag some of the stuff I have of his in my collection out to a smootharteK show at some point
hopefully amusement anyway reckon...

That's awesome Chip. I love the drunken barroom chorus in the background. Very authentic.
I need to start smoking. That's a cool prop. ;-)

I like his style.
I felt bad that he only got to take two hits off his cigarette. He's one of those guys who makes smoking look good.
I enjoyed the way he delivered the tune, very natural, it drew me right in.

Is this guy popular in NO?
It seems as if everyone knows his tune.
Very cool!

I don't think he's a real famous guy, but he's been on the New Orleans scene for a long time, been in a whole right slew of different combos- I've followed him as best I could since I left the city
He's just a mook from Jersey who went down to the bayou to go to school and somehow just fit in really well with the music scene down there- you can sort of see why in his demeanor
He had one band called Royal Fingerbowl which toured pretty good and all that, and a band called the Tin Men which was him on guitar a dude playing the tuba and a dude playing the washboard which was pretty haul ass just because they sounded so different- there's a version of the immigrant song they did at a Jazzfest out there that's pretty cool
and I think he quit smoking since then, but he was pretty good at it

Replacing the bass with tuba appears to be popular down in the Louisiana area. I've seen several bands come up here playing the folk festival where they do that. Seems like a natural thing to do.
You would be amazed at how much rhythm can be generated by a washboard or one of those frattoirs (the metal versions that the zydeco guys wear like a vest). I played in a band where the drummer (Mike Farias, now playing with CuBop) came out in front of the kit and played one of those. He really carried the groove well. It hauled @$$, as you like to say.
