How do you get Sponsored?
I don't even know if this is an appropriate questions, but I see a lot of bands sponsored by a lot of different alcohol distributors.
I am interested to know how it works and how I can be a part of that.

I would think Captain Morgan would have the most logical answer to this as I believe that his band was sponsored many times by the company in which they share the name.

I'm not looking for a ton of dough for the band, but having a brand name up there grabs some attention. (I think, however I've been wrong about things before) :)

I would think you'd have to do that through a sales guy, not a bar- find the Bud distributor and tell him you want to do a night with giveaways and such-
I bet you'd have to have gigs on the books, where you're getting people through the door to make it worth the guy's time tho-
And I wonder if they'd pay YOU- that would be rough to sell-

Dara, try to reach Devin Cordero from Last Laugh or John Russell from Moonshine...they're a couple of the bigger cover acts in the area and I believe they both have had sponsorships at one point or another.
Dev or Rusty...got an answer for this young lady?

Yeah, those are the guys. The RumRunners were never sponsored by Captain Morgan, those bastids never even wanted to do a Captain Morgan night with us! They had no interest in Lowell at that time. Always bummed me out.
I think we did ONE Captain Morgan night our whole 10 years down town!

That's pretty much some of the info I was looking for.
I will try to find a sales rep, or track down a band that has had sponsors. Like I said, I think the brand name will grab attention, money wasn't really the objective.
Plus i love giveaways, and if I could give away someone else's swag instead of buying it myself, that would be even better. Drunk people love free stuff!! And they love me if I give it to them!! (The stuff that is...)

Corp Sponsorship by Brand: Need roughly 80+ quality gigs per year with demostrated crowds. This will yeild sometimes poster printing, merchanside for giveaways, in some cases, radio spots, etc and most importantly can open the door to some bigger gigs if act has the mustard for the hotdog.
Local Distributors will sometimes also directly sponsor a band or work with a certain club to sponsor a show, they will bring the
free t-shirts, a couple cute useless people to stand around and leave as quick as they can, print posters, a banner or two and
the like. done right it can help. done with haste or no thought it yeilds pretty much nothing more.
it really depends on alot of factors, band, clubs, direction, the product. etc etc.
Debs has done some good promo's all the time with their bands, as did Rusty G's a couple times when they were open. Wally;s , etc. Typically they want at least 100+ people in a room guaranteed.

i know that bruce jacques(a single),,is sponsored by budweiser. has been for a while. mama kicks out of n.h is also sponsored by a booze co.(can't think of which one). it's gotta help somewhat!

I'm not trying to break any rules or make anyone angry, I love seeing other live bands do well and by no means are trying to cheat anyone.....I just wanted to know if anyone had any information so i could make an informed decision as to if this was something that would work for us.

A sponsorship would work for anyband that could get one. Its how you use it thats important. theres really no risk or cost to you, only the work to get in contact with people, its almost like booking a gig, you gotta call, call, call and then hope you get them on the right day.
You may want to start with working with one of your steady gigs, and the bar manager owner there and get them to beat on their distributor , say Bud, Coors, Jose Quervo, etc etc. and do a promo night. thats a great way to start, then you have proven track record going forwrd.

ummm....chippa? It's P!SS, not sh!t. Ya know...cuz p!ss is a liquid like water and could be confused for rain...ya know, unlike sh!t...unless you've got the runs...and even then, there would probably be too much of it to be confused for rain...plus, then there's the smell...not pleasant.
Dara, I had an old band that had a local alcohol selling establishment provide us with a "banner". Couldn't beat the price but we only got that because our bass player knew the owner from high school, I believe.

I had what you say were pecans, but they looked like walnuts to me- the spicy ones- they were awesome- I'm rationing them out because I'll be in the car for about ten hours over the next few days...
I figure I'll switch off-

Sponsorships are tough to come by. You have to have a full time workin gact with a great following. The Zoo won their sponsorship by winning MTV's best cover band contest. If you aren't a full time band doing 20 or more shows a month it would be tough to get anyone to sponsor you.

Moonshine is sponsored by Bud Light through a local distributor by playing many of the clubs that they distribute to.
We are basically just advertisment for them but sometimes get some shirts and giveaways.
Key is.....play play play! The more visable you are the easier it is to get sponsored.

I can't tell you the whole story.
Nestles showed up quick. and saved my ass. They strirred up quite a controversy.
The Swiss Miss mast have tipped them off, but it had a lot to do with Little Debbie. They're close friends.
Even though it didn't work out between us, Little Debbie still cares.
Many a teen became oval due to Ovalteen.
Little Debbie still can't ride a bike or wear fishnet panty hose.
She's still very cute but she'll never be the sweet girl we used to know. Stay away from ovaltine these kids need peace in their lives.

I haven't read through all of these posts but in response to JZ near the beginning....the RumRunners never received a dime from any alcohol distillery or distributor with the exception of a Budweiser guitar given to Steve from the local beer distributor by chance.
Any sign that was put up behind us with our name and the name of some beverage was purely by chance and it was never in Lowell, only at Sugarloaf.
