I just happened to be involed in an Teleconference with the Brain Child of Song Pull last week. It was their first conference with all of us directors from all over the country.

What was interesting was how it all all came about.
There was just a bunch of musician guys who each had a past in performing and writing and touring and all that stuff.

Well there was one guy who was actually signed with columbia records for a time with his band. The band broke up and after a couple other attemps to stay with it he lost motivation and just gave up.
Well all his friends thought it was such a waste of talent to see him do nothing because they all thought he had so much to offer. So as an attempt to pull him out of his slouch they decided to start doing these songwriting gatherings at someone's house to try to get him back to writing again which he loved.

So the other songwriters got together and started first just doing the same songs month after month and eventually it was getting old. So they decided to see if everybody could come the next time with a brand new song.

That was actually how the "30 day" song started.

During this the Brain Child Dan Fritz stumbled upon something about Johnny Cash and what he called a Guitar Pull which included Bob Dylan and others. He was amazed to find out that one of Johnny Cash's songs was written at one of these gatherings and his first live performance of the song was only a week later where he needed to read the words while he performed it because it was so new.
I think there is a video of it somewhere but I don't know where it is.

So much of the excitement about these Song Pulls are what if somebody hits it big and you just happened to be there when it was first written?

Wouldn't that be cool?
